Pilot Lodge - Mozambique

Discussions with the preferred bidder are proceeding well and there is agreement on the terms of the contract.  A period of 10+10 with a further 10 years, the terms of which will be renegotiated have been agreed to. Entrance fee of US$15 000,00 has been agreed to.  Guaranteed concession fee of US$600 per month, adjusted annually according to average inflation rate for preceding 12 month period.  To be confirmed if the contract will set this in US$ or local currency. Offer of 5% of gross revenue will be accepted.

There is ongoing uncertainty over land boundary delimitation and the Canhane Community together with Helvetas is attempting to resolve the matter.  This could present a critical stumbling block to negotiations and the process if not resolved.

Pilot Lodge Workshop and Media Trip

A workshop was held at Guludo Beach Lodge in late February, bringing together the various ASL-Mozambique pilot lodge owners and ASL staff and associated experts from Mozambique and South Africa.  The workshop was very constructive and informative for all parties and dealt with legal issues, through land demarcation issues, options of community equity, etc.  This was followed by a media trip, organised by ASL-Mozambique, which is giving exposure to the ASL programme and its core objectives and activities, as well as promoting the lodges as responsible tourism destinations.
